Reassemble the Divided Data in R Programming – unsplit() function

In R programming, data which is split by split() function can be reassembled back using unsplit() function. This function is reverse of split() function. In this article, we’ll learn the syntax and implementation of unsplit() function with the help of examples.

Syntax: unsplit(value, f, drop = FALSE)

Parameters:
value: represents split data
f: represents factor on which data was splitted
drop: represents logical value. If TRUE, levels do not occur will be dropped

Example 1:




# Define data 
gender <- c("m", "f", "f", "f", "m", "m", "f", "m", "f", "f", "m"
height <- c(171, 164, 165, 170, 179, 180, 169, 179, 170, 171, 178) 
df <- data.frame(gender, height) 
    
# Print data frame 
cat("Original data frame:\n"
print(df) 
    
# Split data frame by gender 
s <- split(df, df$gender) 
    
# Print split data 
cat("\nAfter splitting data:\n"
print(s)
  
# Reverse the split data
us <- unsplit(s, df$gender)
  
# Print reassembled data 
cat("\nAfter reassembling the data:\n"
print(us)


Output:

Original data frame:
   gender height
1       m    171

After splitting data:
