QA – Placement Quizzes | Mensuration 2D | Question 10

If the radius of a circle is increased by 6%, then the area is increased by:
(A) 14.96
(B) 11.24
(C) 13.64
(D) 12.36

Answer: (D)

Explanation: New Area of the Circle = Pi * (R + 6% of R)^2
= Pi * (R + 0.06R)^2
= Pi * (1.06R)^2
= Pi * R^2 * (1.06)^2.

Therefore, percentage increase in Area = [ Pi * R^2 * (1.06)^2 – Pi * R^2 ]/ (Pi * R^2)
= 1.06^2 – 1 = 0.1236 = 12.36%
