PyQt5 ComboBox – User entered items store before the selected position

In this article we will see how we user entered item get added before the current selected position in the combo box i.e when user insert item in the editable combo box it get inserted at the position at which is before current selected item is in the drop down list, by default when user insert any item it get inserted at the bottom.

Note : When item get inserted it will not replace or overwrite the item which was before current position although it will shift the position of other items to get added at the desired position

In order to make combo box such that item inserted by user get added before the selected position in the drop down list we have to do the following –

1. Create a combo box
2. Make the combo box editable using setEditable method
3. Set insertion policy of combo box to insert at before the current
4. Create label
5. Retrieve the insertion policy and show it with the help of label

Below is the implementation

        # adding list of items to combo box
        # creating editable combo box
        # setting insertion policy
        # new item will get added before the selected place
        # getting current insertion policy
        policy = self.combo_box.insertPolicy()
        # creating label to  print the policy
        label = QLabel("Insertion policy = " + str(policy), self)
        # setting geometry of the label
        label.setGeometry(200, 100, 200, 30)
