GATE Exam – The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. GATE 2022 was conducted on 29 subjects.

  • Gate score is used for admissions to various engineering post-graduation programs in IISc, IITs, NITs, IIITs, and many foreign institutes.
  • Indian Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) use Gate scores to recruit graduate engineers in entry-level positions.

The validity of the Score from the date of announcement of the GATE results:

1 Year: in PSUs recruitments,
3 Years: in IISc, IITs, NITs, and IIITs etc.

PSUs Recruitment Process

Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), like IOCL BHEL, NTPC, BPCL, and CEL are Indian Government corporation/company and the Government have more than 51% share. For the application of the PSU job, you require strong, in-depth technical knowledge and an understanding of core engineering Principles for PSU Jobs. GATE exam is fit in these tests.

You can apply directly through the “Careers” section given on these PSU websites, although nearly all of the PSUs choose to recruit candidates in 3 ways:

  1. By conducting their test examinations.
  2. By shortlisting candidates based on their GATE scores.
  3. By recruiting candidates from the premier (e.g., IIT, IIM etc.) institutes in the country.

For a long, PSUs have had trouble conducting their recruitment processes with a selection rate of less than 1% from more than 100,000 candidates. To solve this, after 2012, the PSUs decided that a GATE score would be the primary criteria for initial shortlisting. Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) was the first PSU which successfully test this system then two years later by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), and other PSUs. All these PSUs would shortlist candidates based on GATE scores and then the process is followed by GD and Interview for assessment of different facets of knowledge. Eligibility Criteria for PSU
