Optum (United Health Group) visited the IIT Jammu campus virtually in September 2020 for hiring students for summer internship 2021. Only Computer Science Engineering students were eligible with a CGPA of 7.0 and above. Around 32 students were shortlisted for Round 1.
Round 1 (Coding Test): This test was conducted on HackerRank with a duration of 75 mins. There was a total of 26 Questions including 25 MCQs based on DSA, OS, DBMS, OOPS where MCQs were multi correct and some were single-correct with no negative marking. MCQs were easy to intermediate level and One coding question was different for everyone and was quite easy to solve. It was even passing all the test cases with the Naïve algorithm.
18 Students got shortlisted for Round 2 of the hiring process.
Round 2 (Technical Interview): This interview round was conducted on Cisco WebEx meetings. The interview duration was 45 mins for everyone. The interviewer started with the introduction and asked mine and then asked me to explain my projects. He started questioning things based on my projects. Some questions were about the tools and technologies which I have used and improvisations that can be made on projects. He asked me about the Database more precisely and the actual working of the database in my projects. Some of my friends were drilled with the coding questions (which were also classical questions based on sorting, BST, etc) and some students had the whole interview based on their projects like me so it is completely up to the interviewer whether he will ask coding questions, or he will continue with asking questions from a resume. So one should be thorough enough with all the things he/she has written in their resume.
8 Students got shortlisted for Round 3 of the hiring process.
Round 3 (Managerial Round): This round was conducted on Cisco WebEx meetings and the interviewer was well experienced as he told me it’s been more than 10 years he is working in Optum. The interview duration was 30 mins for everyone (Managerial round happened for me just after 2 hours of my technical interview) Firstly, he asked me to briefly introduce myself. Then he moved on to the CV and asked some questions about the previous internships like the environment and project I worked on. He asked me to explain the projects and what database I have used and the advantages of NoSQL database over SQL. At last, He asked me to showcase the demo of one of the projects by screen sharing and a few questions about it.
6 Students got shortlisted for Round 4 of the hiring process.
Round 4 (HR Round): This round was a telephonic interview and got finished in 5-10 mins. HR asked me :
- To introduce myself.
- What are my hobbies and a few personal questions based on the Introduction?
- What is the preferred location and Why?
Finally, 6 Students were offered a summer internship for the year 2021.
Be Prepared with everything written in a resume as it is verified in every round of the interview.
