The relationship between political parties and pressure groups can take various forms as follows:

  • Politicians and political parties are regularly involved in organizing and leading pressure groups. In India, the majority of labor unions and student organizations are created by or connected with one of the main political parties.
  • Political parties can form as a result of movements. This is how political parties including the DMK and AIADMK were formed.
  • Issues raised by pressure or movement organizations are typically taken up by political parties, leading to policy shifts.
  • Political parties also participate in trade unions, as well as student unions either as in the form of hosts or sometimes to mobilize the support for such types of unions for fighting the rival parties.
  • Movements that are led for a cause land up as a type of pressure group for various purposes and they have a indirect relationship too, where there is both dialogue and negotiations.

Pressure organizations can help to counteract this excessive influence by reminding the government of regular folks’ demands and concerns. The pressure groups at times can bring awareness to the citizens about governmental activities and the political parties have to act in a more reasonable manner.
