National Bal Swachhta Mission was launched as a part of the famous initiative ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. It was launched by Smt. Maneka Gandhi, Union Minister for Women and Child Development in 2014. It was launched to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Sri Jawaharlal Nehru, the former PM of India. Its implementation was simulated by women and child development in accordance with the help of various departments comprising school education, clean drinking water, hygienic washrooms as well as clean sanitation. It also incorporates the departments of information and publicity. 

It aims at creating awareness and encouraging students to maintain cleanliness in all places, including, homes, schools as well as public areas. The National Institute of Public Cooperation And Child Development (NIPCCD) has also released a book on the Bal Swachhta Mission prepared in accordance with the Union Minister of Women and Child Development. 

Objectives of the National Bal Swachhta Mission:

It was launched with the following objectives in mind : 

  1. Clean Anganwadis
  2. Cleaner surroundings, such as playgrounds
  3. Child health as well as personal hygiene
  4. Healthy food
  5. Properly filtered and clean drinking water
  6. Proper sanitation including clean washrooms 

Eligibility for the National Bal Swachhta Mission:

The National Bal Swachhta Mission holds its eligibility for the following agencies and individuals : 

  1. Government schools in India
  2. Anganwadis
  3. The State, District, Blocks as well as the Gram-Panchayat level.

Theme of the Bal Swachhta Mission week:

The Bal Swachhta Mission week was held in the year 2014 in the form of a 6-day program that took place from the 14th of November to the 19th of November with an initiative undertaken every day.

  1. The 14th of November was based on the fact of “Clean Schools, Surroundings and Play area”.
  2. The 15th of November was based on the fact of “Clean Food”.
  3. The 17th of November was based on the theme of “Clean Self”.
  4. The 18th of November was based on the theme of “Clean Drinking Water”.
  5. The 19th of November was based on the theme of “Clean Toilet”.

Implementation of the National Bal Swachhta Mission:

The implementation of the National Bal Swachhta Mission was undertaken by the women and child development to simulate the following objectives : 

  • School Education
  • Drinking-Water 
  • Information
  • Sanitation
  • Publicity
  • Urban Development

Benefits of the National Bal Swachhta Mission:

  • The goal of this mission is to teach children about hygiene and cleanliness which can instill in youngsters the importance of keeping their surroundings clean.
  • The focus on cleanliness will spread to adults through children, enabling them to maintain cleanliness in their immediate environment.
  • Diseases won’t spread and everyone will be healthy if their environment is clean.
  • Children may not get any disease in the future if they are raised with the habit of eating healthy food, drinking clean water, and using clean restrooms.
