  • Rock-Edicts have an essential place in archaeological sources. The inscription can be divided into three parts based on their time.
    1- Inscriptions before Emperor Ashoka
    2- Inscriptions of Emperor Ashoka
    3- Later inscriptions of Emperor Ashoka
     
  • The description of the political, administrative, religious, and social conditions of Ashoka and Maurya is obtained from 14 major inscriptions, 7 pillar inscriptions, and minor inscriptions of the time of Emperor Ashoka. 
  • These inscriptions also reveal the determination of the extent of the Maurya period.
  • The Rummindei inscription also reveals the Mauryan tax system.

Sahasrara
  • This inscription is located in the Sasaram district of Bihar state.
Bhabru inscription
  • This inscription has been received from the Jaipur district of Rajasthan. 
  • This inscription proves Emperor Ashoka to be a follower of Buddhism.
  •  In this Ashoka declares himself the king of Magadha.
Maski inscription
  • The Maski inscription was discovered by Biden in 1915 AD. 
  • In this, the name of Emperor Ashoka is found in Ashoka itself. 
  • It is located in the Raichur district of Andhra Pradesh.
Brahmagiri inscription
  • It has been received from a place called Brahmagiri in Karnataka.
Siddhapur inscription
  • The Siddhapur inscription has been found near a place called Brahmagiri in the state of Karnataka.
