Microsoft Azure is the cloud computing platform. It provides lots of cloud computing solutions. Azure Portal is a single powerful management tool or a graphical user interface that lets you access and manage all your applications, services in one place Azure portal is a single easy-to-use console built just for you, your team, and your projects. Microsoft Azure simplifies building, deploying, and managing your cloud resources. You can get the most out of it when you use these tips while using the Azure portal. These tips will help you to organize your portal to custom-fit your work and according to your work style.

Azure Portal Settings

1. Configure Azure Portal Auto Logout:

You can configure Azure Portal to auto-signout based on the time of inactivity. To customize Azure Portal auto-signout, navigate to Portal Settings and choose the time from Log me out when inactive to the portal. This will enable us to configure portal sign-out based on your need. You can also set up a custom duration for logout from Azure Portal as well.

  • In the Azure portal
  • In the upper right corner, click Portal Settings.
  • On the portal settings, click Signing out + notifications.
  • Select time of Inactivity. You can even choose custom duration too.
  • Click on the Apply button to save changes

2. Manage various looks and contrast of the themes:

  • In the Azure Portal
  • In the upper right corner, click Portal Settings.
  • On the portal settings, click Appearance+startup view
  • Click on the options you need
  • Click on the Apply button to save changes

3. Manage startup view as Dashboard or Home: 

 Startup view is the first view of the Azure portal when you open it. By default when you log in to the Azure portal for the first time, Home will be the default view. When you open the Azure portal you will have the option to either open Dashboard or Home as a default view.

Azure Home is the default view provided by the portal and this can not be customized. But Azure Dashboard can be customized according to our ease.

Azure Portal Search Bar:

One of the most useful services of the Azure portal is Azure portal search or Global search. Just click in the top bar of the Azure portal. 

Features:

  • You can directly jump to any services from any page of the Azure portal. You can jump to resources, resource groups, and subscriptions directly from here.
  • List of the last few resources you have used in the portal.
  • You can search for marketplace solutions directly from here.
  • You can search for documentation.

Azure portal Keyboard Shortcuts:

Azure Portal Keyboard Shortcuts enables users to quickly navigate and easily access various features in the portal. You can use Keyboard shortcuts anywhere from the Azure portal. Once you are familiar with these keyboards you would prefer to access and navigate across the portal using the keyboard. These keyboard shortcuts are really useful, convenient, and time-saving.

Azure categorized Keyboards shortcuts into three different groups – Navigation, Action, and Go To. Check out these cool shortcuts and try them out.

CTRL + / Search blade menu items
ALT + SHIFT + UP Move favorite up
ALT + SHIFT + DOWN Move favorite down
G + / Search bar or Global Search Bar

Open the item pinned to the favorite bar

at this position.

Favorite Menu:

You will find a list of favorite services in the left menu of the portal. You have star (favorite) services that you use frequently like resource groups, virtual machines, etc. Click on the star icon of that service to add to the favorite menu. Stay on top of the things that matter most by pinning them to your favorite menu.
