In this article, we will learn how to use filters in the Azure Portal. In which we will primarily explore the concept of pills and how to use them in filtering.

In Azure all resources view. You can see, the filters are here in blue. This is an updated styling as well. So, this is the new experience where you get a dialog, you’ll get an info balloon describing what is actually the filter doing, as well as the operator and a value, so you can search for items within the list as well as an explicit confirmation. This is, again, another styling update that Azure did from the prior filtering view.

And for type, you can come and hover over the info balloon and you will get a description and, again, the operator is here and values.

And location, let’s say that you would like to filter this down to contain only U.S. So, let do operator contains and here let’s do the U.S and apply, and as you can see, now all of your locations are all including the U.S. If you remove a location and you will be able to see that Azure have other items in here that do not contain So if you go back and add location contains the U.S. and now you can see that now they are all U.S.And, this is how filtering works for all resources. This pattern is also consistent across the Azure Portal.

Moving towards the dashboards you can see the pills again, over here you can select every five minutes, ten minutes, and so on. Suppose you move it to five minutes. So, now these will be updated every five minutes.

If you move over to App Service, there is another service that also utilizes the filter, the same filtering here the way that these will work is the same way. Add and find one of the resources that had been stopped. So, deselect and click stopped and then apply. You will be able to filter down to the one resource that hadn’t stopped. So, you come to the all resources, and here you will be able to filter down the list below with these pill filters.

So, this is how you can use pills to filter in the Azure portal.
