The demand for communication platforms is quite high. The communication sector is expected to grow by 15-20% by the year 2026. As competition is very high in the market as businesses nowadays have tons of options to boost communication. So, it is quite difficult sometimes to choose a good communication platform. Both, CISCO Jabber and Slack are the communication platforms. Both applications make it easy for the user to interact with others. Though, they are quite similar in many prospects but differ in some functionalities.

Cisco Jabber

It is a communication solution that delivers instant messaging, voice and video calls, voice messaging, desktop sharing, and conferencing. Basically, it is another application from Cisco for users to communicate with others through the internet with more features suitable for general communication.

With this communication application, calls can be imitated and answered from anywhere using the desktop. Also, the desktop can be shared with another Jabber user. It also notifies the user if another Jabber user is available. It works with Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, and Cisco Unified MeetingPlace, among other applications very efficiently.

Advantages of Cisco Jabber

  • Access the app directly from MS Office applications to initiate the chat.
  • It is cost-effective and friendly.
  • Anywhere access with secure communication.

Disadvantages of Cisco Jabber

  • The call forwarding option is not feasible for the unregistered user.
  • Limited to chat and voice calls.

Slack

It is a  commercial communication platform developed by Slack Technologies and contains many features such as private groups, chat rooms, and direct messaging options. The third-party app with which Slack interacts is – Dropbox, Google Drive, Zendesk, Trello, GitHub, Zapier, Box, and Heroku. It separates user messages into three categories – private, public, and direct. Also, it changes the colors of the left sidebar of the screen for a better user experience.

Advantages of Slack

  • Creating channels within the company.
  • Easy to share.
  • Data is always protected.

Disadvantages of Slack

  • Conversations get deleted after 14 days
  • Minimum file storage.

Introduced The year jabber was introduced is 2000. The year Slack was introduced is 2013.
Version It has no free- version. It has free, business, and pro versions.
Audience The target audience of Jabber is mid to large organizations. It is meant for a wide variety of audiences i.e, maybe for only 2 people to 10 companies.
Support It has online support and also 24/7 live support. It has only online support.
Training The training for the same is done through documentation only. The training for the same is through documentation, live or online, and in-person too.

Cisco Jabber and Slack are two different applications with the presence of technology that makes people’s life easy virtually. Though the connectivity is the same in both but functionality of these applications is different.
