In government exams like SSC, Banking, Railways, etc we find many questions from the Polity general awareness section. This is a very broad section and sometimes questions are very factual. we will cover the General awareness section comprehensively so that students can learn and get most of the questions correct in this section. In this article, we will provide a list of Intelligence Agencies of Different Countries.

Importance of Intelligence Agencies:

  • Intelligence services are very important. The requirement determines their role. Depending on the requirements, an Intelligence service uses different collection methods to cover its information needs.

  • Intelligence services can be organized by their requirement to produce a certain “kind” of information; for example, gathering foreign intelligence, military intelligence, or law enforcement.

  • Intelligence services may also be given the management and control of a certain intelligence-gathering capacity. For example, the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is the agency responsible for controlling, managing, and collecting satellite reconnaissance imagery.

  • To Monitor the political, military, economic and scientific changes in countries that can have a possible direct impact on a nation’s national security and the formulation of its foreign policy.

  • Shaping international public opinion and influencing foreign governments.

  • Convert operations to protect national interests.

  • Counter-terrorism operations and neutralizing elements pose a threat to the nation.

  • Monitors political and military developments in neighbouring countries that have a direct impact on the country’s national security and the formation of its foreign policy.

How Intelligence Agencies Work:

  •  CIA is the most important American spy agency, there is a second equally large American spy agency called  DIA. The DIA produces about a quarter of all the intelligence content included in the President’s Daily Briefing.

  • In 2010, the Department of Defense purchased and destroyed all copies of the first issue of Lt. Col. The book of Anthony Shaffer called “Operation Dark Heart” claimed that the  Intelligence Agency Defense had failed to evaluate the information on the 9/11 hijackers to conduct the attacks to allow.   The British secret service MI6 was founded in 1909 but was kept so secret that it was not officially recognized until  1994.

  • USSR KGB gave evidence linking the Central Intelligence Agency to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and leaked the material to unwitting conspiracy theorists in the United States, according to the Mitrokhin archive based on KGB Files brought to the West by a deserter.   The US government agencies (CIA, FBI, Naval Intelligence) have repeatedly recruited the American mafia to achieve their goals. Some examples are the defence of New York Harbor during World War II and the assassination attempts on Fidel Castro in the 1960s.

  • The Central Intelligence Agency has a memorial wall at headquarters for employees who died while working for the American spy agency. Every year the CIA adds stars for deaths; Some with names, some without. There are 125 stars in 2017, eight more than in 2016 and 46 more than in 2002. During the “secret war” waged by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)  against communist and nationalist forces in Laos from 1964 to 1973, more bombs were dropped on this rural nation of poor farmers than all the explosives recently dropped on Germany and Japan years were dropped.  Second World

  • A professor in Switzerland wrote a book about how secret services have a “strategy of stress” by faking terrorist attacks to keep the population in fear and under control.

  • In 1975, an Indian intelligence service warned the President of Bangladesh of a possible attack. Ignoring the advice, he said, “These are my children and they will not harm me. Seven months later, inspired by his closest political associates, he was assassinated by the military.”
