  • Although not an invention, Alexander Fleming accidentally discovered penicillin in 1928  when he left a Petri dish uncovered and mould grew on it.10 – The first electric vacuum cleaner was invented in 1901 by Hubert Cecil Booth. 
     
  • The first ever self-service gas station opened in the United States of America in 1927. 
     
  • The microwave oven was invented by Percy Spencer at Raytheon and patented in 1945.
