Spigot malware is a type of adware bundled with online downloads from seemingly reputable websites. Once legitimate downloads are opened, several spigot applications are installed as extensions in web browsers and are able to display advertisements.

Methods of Removing Spigot From Mac:

There are 4 different methods to remove the spigot from Mac. Once you find the method that works for your situation, you can then follow the steps outlined below:

  • Get Rid of the Spigot by Uninstalling it via Activity Monitor on Mac, This is probably the most effective and easiest method to use if you are having issues with the spigot taking up too much space on your system. 
  • Get Rid of the Spigot by Uninstalling it via Terminal on Mac, This method is ideal if you want to remove the spigot from your Mac completely.
  • Get Rid of Spigot by Delete reset app through Task-Manager on Mac, Once you’ve done this, the task manager should now show an “Uninstall” button next to the spigot icon. Clicking on it will automatically uninstall the program.
  • Get Rid of Spigot using App Cleaner on Mac, App cleaner is a great tool to help keep your iMac clean and clutter-free easy, as it deletes unneeded files and programs without leaving any unwanted traces behind.

Uninstall Spigot by Activity Monitor on Mac:

The Activity Monitor is one of the best tools on your Mac if you want to know what’s going on. It’s a useful tool to help show you what tasks are currently running on your Mac.

  • Launch Activity Monitor via Applications→ Utilities then clicks the “Go” button”.
  • Select the Processes tab and find out whatever program is running in the “Spigot” section and close it.
  • This method should work for Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and 10. 10 Yosemite.
  • Go to your Applications folder and find the app named “Spigot” (it will show up in the list just like any other application you have on your Mac, If you do not see it, go to Applications Folder and then select utility folder and open it).
  • Open the menu at the top left corner of your screen from where you can choose “Force Quit“.
  • Now if you find that this method did not work for you, try again by pressing the “CMD” + “Q” keys on your keyboard then enter the following code into the terminal (look for the menu item called “Terminal“) 

Uninstall Spigot by Terminal on Mac:

If you wish to remove spigot from your Mac system, it is advisable that you remove it via the terminal to ensure that all files are deleted. Do not rush into this and make sure to follow the instructions carefully. This process will require a bit of work on your part, so please do pay attention to the details outlined below:

  • Open the Applications→Utilities folder then find the Terminal and open it.
  • Then type ‘Cd ~/Library’ (without the quotations) in Terminal, then press return. That will take you to the home folder and then type:

killall com.apple.spigot

  • Now you can delete spigot App from your Mac machine by pressing ‘CMD + Q‘ on your keyboard followed by entering the following code into the terminal: 

rm -rf com.apple.spigot

  • Now go to the Applications folder and select the Mac OS X utility folder, then open the Terminal and enter the following code into it: 

sudo rm -rf /Applications/Spigot.app

  • Now you can safely remove spigot from the Mac machine by opening the Applications folder, then select Mac OS X Utilities Folder and opening Terminal, then type the following code and press return:

sudo rm -rf /Applications/Spigot.app/

Remove Spigot from Chrome, Safari, and Firefox on macOS:

  • Step 1: Open your System Preferences
  • Step 2: Click on Security & Privacy
  • Step 3: Click on the Content Blocking icon to enable or disable it. You may need to click on Settings and then click on Content Blocking before enabling or disabling it. Be sure you scroll down near the bottom of security settings and select “Some sites”. If you don’t see this option, then turn off all types of content blocking altogether.
  • Step 4: Navigate back to Chrome, Safari, and Firefox in your system preferences and delete Spigot from each browser. This step is similar for all three browsers.

Remove Spigot from files and folders:

  • Go to your Control Panel and remove the program.
  • Delete all the files and folders that are associated with it from the hard drive.
  • If you want to use a specific file, such as “slightly drunk”, go through Finder and delete all of them
  • Empty the trash can on Mac or click on “Empty Trash” in the start menu folder on Windows.
  • Restart the computer if necessary.
