The main purpose of the Cisco Packet Tracer is to help students learn the principles of networking with hands-on experience as well as develop Cisco technology-specific skills. Since the protocols are implemented in software-only methods, this tool cannot replace hardware Routers or Switches. Interestingly, this tool does not only include Cisco products but also many more networking devices.

Deploy devices in Cisco packet Tracer:

Step 1: Open the deploying and cabling device packet tracer file. Double-click to open the deployable device.pkt file created earlier.

A screen similar to the following will appear. If the file doesn’t open, make sure the Packet Tracer application is installed correctly.

Step 2: Go to the device type selection box at the bottom of the screen to find it.

Step 3: Device categories are represented by the top row of icons and subcategories are represented by the bottom row. If you carefully point to the top row of icons and look at the label space between the rows, you will see the category title. Hover over the icon in the bottom row to see how its name appears.

Step 4: Create a setup of the switches and computers.

Step 5: Locate the switch icon on the bottom row of icons by pointing to it. Click the switch icon to change the switch device in the Device Specific Selection field.

Step 6: Deploy two 2960 switches above the workspace labels Switch0 and Switch1. You can select the required switches and place them in the desired area of the workspace or drag and drop them.

Step 7: Go to the end device. If you select the Device category in the Device type selection field, 6 PCs will be available.

Step 8: Simply point to the device in the device-specific selection box and inspect the label area under the device. If you don’t know which device the PC is, you’ll see PC-PT.
