How to Install Shutter Screenshot Tool on Ubuntu

The Shutter is a feature-rich, open-source screenshot utility running on Linux. It is simple to snap screenshots of a window, desktop, menu, or any other specified location. In addition, a fully equipped editor is available to alter the recorded screenshots. The editor’s most significant capabilities include cropping the image, applying various effects, adding text, highlighting certain regions, and adding arrows. Additionally, Shutter has several plugins to boost productivity and alter the design as well as the ability to exchange photographs through FTP. 

Installation of Shutter on Ubuntu

The  Shutter application can be installed using 2 different methods:

  • Method 1: Installing Shutter using GUI
  • Method 2: Installing Shutter using terminal

Let’s go through both the installation methods one by one.

Method 1: Installing Shutter using GUI

Step 1: First, open the software center from which we will download the Shutter application.

 

Step 2: Now search for the Shutter application in the Search bar. We have got the results which include the Shutter application icon.

 

Step 3: Click on the Install button to install the application.

 

Step 4: After installing, we will launch the application, so to launch the application search for Shutter in Activities Panel. 

 

Step 5: Click on the application icon to open. After clicking we can see that our application is successfully opened.

 

Method 2: Installing Shutter using terminal

Step 1: Open a terminal and type the below command to enable the repository.

sudo add-apt-repository PPA:linuxuprising/shutter

 

Step 2: Now, update the repositories by using the below command.

sudo apt update

 

Step 3: Now finally install the Shutter application using the apt manager. Execute the below command to install the application.

sudo apt install shutter

 

Step 4: Type Y when prompted to install the Shutter application.

 

Step 5: Type the below command in the terminal to launch the application.

shutter

 

Usage of Shutter

Step 1: We have some screenshots which we will open in the Shutter application and will modify the screenshot.

 

Step 2: We have opened the screenshot in the Shutter tool. We can also click the new screenshot from the application itself.

 

Step 3: We will edit the screenshot by adding some basic shapes or text. We can also perform some other operations as per requirement.

 

So, we have successfully installed and used the Shutter Screenshot tool in the Ubuntu system.
