How to Install Gekko In Python on Linux?

In this article, we will learn how to install Gekko in Python on Linux.

GEKKO is a Python package for machine learning and optimization of mixed-integer and differential-algebraic equations. It is coupled with large-scale solvers for linear, quadratic, nonlinear, and mixed-integer programming (LP, QP, NLP, MILP, MINLP). Modes of operation include parameter regression, data reconciliation, real-time optimization, dynamic simulation, and nonlinear predictive control. GEKKO is an object-oriented Python library to facilitate local execution of APMonitor.

Installing Gekko in Python on Linux:

Method 1: Using pip to install Gekko Package

Follow the below steps to install the Gekko package on Linux using pip:

Step 1: Install the latest Python3 in Linux

Step 2: Check if pip3 and python3 are correctly installed.

python3 --version
pip3 --version

Step 3: Upgrade your pip to avoid errors during installation.

pip3 install --upgrade pip

Step 4: Enter the following command to install Gekko using pip3.

pip3 install gekko

Method 2: Using setup.py to install Gekko 

Follow the below steps to install the Gekko package on Linux using the setup.py file:

Step 1: Download the latest source package of Gekko for python3 from here.

curl https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/5e/cd/9d276cf6e905b9d03ca1fb51a27db7f79779703ccf582b88dd54b4a9d4b5/gekko-1.0.1.tar.gz > Gekko.tar.gz

Step 2: Extract the downloaded package using the following command.

tar -xvzf Gekko.tar.gz

Step 3: Go inside the folder and Enter the following command to install the package.

cd gekko-1.0.1
python3 setup.py install

Verifying Gekko installation on Linux:

Make the following import in your python terminal to verify if the installation has been done properly:

import gekko

If there is any error while importing the module then is not installed properly.
