How to Install Cisco Packet Tracer on Linux?

Cisco Packet Tracer is officially developed and designed by the well-known company Cisco. This tool offers a network simulation to practice and design simple and also complex network structures. One of the main purposes of Cisco Packet Tracer is to help the students and professionals the flavor to networking with all the hands-on experiences.  Since the protocols are implemented in the software-only method, this tool cannot replace the hardware Routers or Switches. In this article, we will be looking into the steps of installing the Cisco Packet Tracer in the Linux operating system.

 Installing Cisco Packet Tracer on Linux 

To install Cisco Packet Tracer on Linux OS follow the following steps:

Step 1: Open your web browser and visit the Netacad website. Enter your login credentials or create an account on the website. Then, click on the Download Packet Tracer option from the Resources drop-down menu.

Step 2: After scrolling downwards, click on the option Ubuntu Desktop Version 8.1.1 English. After clicking the .deb file will be downloaded.

Step 3: Now, open up the terminal and execute the following command to start the installation process. Make sure you run the following command from the location where the .deb file is located.

sudo dpkg -i CiscoPacketTracer_811_Ubuntu_64bit.deb

Step 4: Press Enter to accept the software license agreement.

Step 5: Press Enter on the Yes option to accept the EULA terms.

Step 6: As some of the dependent packages are missing, we have encountered an error.

Step 7: To solve the above error, execute the following command to install the required packages.

sudo apt install -f

Step 8: Now, our tool is successfully installed. Launch the tool by using the following command.

Step 9: Once again enter the credentials which are been registered on the Netacad website.
