How to Install Cantata Music Player on Ubuntu

There are various ways to use Linux to enjoy music. A completely functional Music Player client for Music Player Daemon is The Cantata Music Player (MPD). The MPD is used by the Cantata as a background music player. Cantata also offers online radio for your enjoyment. The Cantata music player’s most recent version as of this writing is 2.4.2. How to install Cantata Music Player on Ubuntu is explained in this article. Ubuntu has both the Personal Package Archive (PPA) repository and common package repositories through which the Cantata can be installed. In this article, we will be going through the installation steps of the Cantata Music player in all possible ways. 

Installation of Cantata Music Player on Ubuntu

The Cantata Music Player application can be installed using 2 different methods:

  • Method 1: Installing Cantata using Standard Repository
  • Method 2: Installing Cantata using the PPA repository

Let’s go through both the installation methods one by one.

Method 1: Installing Cantata using Standard Repository

Step 1: Firstly, update the repositories and download the latest packages.

sudo apt update &&sudo apt-get upgrade

 

Step 2: Now, install the Cantata Music Player through the official repository. Execute the below command.

sudo apt install cantata

 

Step 3: As Cantata is a client for MPD, therefore, we need to install MPD. So, run the below command to install MPD.

sudo apt-get install mpd

 

Step 4: Run or launch the player by running the below command.

sudo cantata

 

Step 5: Enter the connection details and after entering the details click on the Connect button.

 

Step 6: Download the missing covers and store them in the music folder or music cache folder.

 

Step 7: Our configuration is done, so click on the Finish button.

 

Step 8: Cantata dashboard screen appears. From here, we can select any option and use Cantata Music Player.

 

Method 2: Installing Cantata using the PPA repository

Step 1: Firstly, add the Cantata’s PPA repository by executing the command in the terminal itself.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/cantata-qt

 

Step 2: Now, update the repositories and download the latest packages.

sudo apt update &&sudo apt-get upgrade

 

Step 3: Install the Cantata player by using the apt package manager.

sudo apt install cantata

 

Step 4: Verify whether the installation is successful or not by checking the Cantata Player’s version.

sudo cantata --version
