Javascript is the most popular programming language that comes installed on every modern browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, etc. Browsers respond differently to JavaScript depending upon its settings or user settings.

In this article, we will learn about how to fix JavaScript error prompt messages which may occur for one or the other reason.

Script Error: A script error generally occurs when the instructions from a script cannot be executed in the manner they need to be for some reason. The script errors occur most frequently in the browser when it cannot be able to run JavaScript or VBScript (Visual Basic Script) or any other scripting language instructions from a web page or from desktop applications.

Fixing of error prompt messages in JavaScript:

  • Firstly, check the browser settings if JavaScript is turned on in the browser like Google Chrome. Sometimes, intentionally it is turned off by the user in the browser settings for the purpose of security.  Because of Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), the malicious code can be easily inserted by hackers. Turning it off prevents you from security loopholes but at the same time, if your running application requires the use of JavaScript it will cause an error.

  • Check that Active Scripting, ActiveX and Java are not being blocked by your browser.
  • The In-Browser Developer Tools of modern browsers can also be used for fixing JavaScript errors. Below is the example of Google Chrome.

Using Developer Tools one can also check for JavaScript errors and other things like DOM view, HTML, CSS, Console, Sources, Security, Network, Performance, Application, Lighthouse, Memory, Recorder, and Settings option.

  • Checking of Cross Browser Compatibility issues by the developers as problems are caused because of the core JavaScript features and the libraries that belong to either JavaScript or to a third party. As JavaScript responds differently with the different browser compatibility needs to be checked beforehand for an application.
  • The deletion of temporary files must be carried out from time to time as accumulated data (might be corrupted) in the cache of the browser for quick visiting of websites can result in scripting errors.
  • Regularly check for the update of your software. Sometimes outdated version of software causes errors so it can be corrected automatically after it’s updated.
  • If the browser is preventing pop-ups sometimes it also leads to script errors because the running the application is not getting enough time to run. A browser allows you to change the settings for pop-ups.
  • Antivirus programs or Firewalls might also cause script errors so you can temporarily disable them in order to prevent script errors.
  • Sometimes restoring all the browser settings can prevent script errors.
