In the Windows server, we need partition in order to protect our data and facilitate data management. The reason being our hard drives have only one partition. If that one partition gets corrupted containing OS, your whole data would get lost and if you have more than one partition you can store your data in that partition and it won’t affect if the OS is damaged or crashed. We’ll learn how to do this by taking an example to separate a 5 GB partition from the C: drive with the NTFS formatting(NTFS is more secure and it’s the default type in Windows NT family).

Create a 5 GB partition with NTFS formatting

Step 1: Press Windows + R key from your keyboard. A run application would appear.

Step 2: Type diskmgmt.msc and press enter. This command in run would help you to open Disk Management console.

Step 3: Select the C: drive and right-click on it. Select the options shrink volume. This would open a shrink wizard.

Step 4: we require 5GB partition. So, enter the amount to be shrink as 5120 MB which is equivalent to 5 GB. and press shrink. It would shrink the volume from the existing volume to create a new partition of 5GB.

A 5 GB unallocated partition would be created.

Step 5: Select the unallocated volume and right-click on it and select New Simple Volume. This would help to create a new volume in the partition created.

Step 6: A welcome wizard for creating a new volume would appear. Click the Next button.

Step 7: Click next. Since, we need to specify the size of volume to be 5GB, it would be automatically be selected as 5GB because we are using a 5GB partition for creating a new volume.

Step 8: Assign the drive letter that would be visible when you access it and click next.

Step 9: Select the File system as NTFS, by default Windows support NTFS partitioning and then click on the Next button.

Step 10: Confirmation Wizard for creating a disk volume would appear, with the details of the setting that we selected to create the type of partition. Click Finish.

Click-Finish

We finally get the partition of the disk with NTFS formatting and space 5 GB.
