GPT stands for GUID Partition Table it is a standard for the layout of partition tables of a physical computer storage device, such as Solid State drive or hard disk drive, used universally. The GPT drive format allows you to set up drives/disks that are larger than 4 terabytes and allows you to easily set up as many partitions as you want for configuring storage drives. GPT partition tables offer a maximum capacity of 9.7 zettabytes while MBR partition tables can have a maximum of 4 separate partitions.

MBR stands for Master Boot Record this identifies where and how the system’s Operating system is located to boot into the computer’s main storage or RAM. without the MBR system cannot start because it is responsible for determining which partition on the disk is used for system boot.

Converting USB drive from GPT to MBR Partition Style

While using a USB drive for installing and booting into another operating system we often see this error that the Selected disk is not a fixed MBR Disk to solve this issue we need to convert the disk to MBR partition style. Follow the steps below to solve the issue.

Step 1: Open the command prompt and make sure to run as administrator.

Step 3: At diskpart type list disk, this will list all the storage drives and disks on your system and make sure your USB is connected.

Typing-list-disk

Step 4: At diskpart type select disk n, where n denotes the disk number of the USB drive usually it is 1 in most cases but do check it once.

Typing-select-disk-n

Step 5: At diskpart type clean.

Typing-clean

Step 6: At diskpart type convert mbr. Converts an empty basic disk with the GUID Partition Table (GPT) partition style to a basic disk with the Master Boot Record (MBR) partition style.

Typing-convert-mbr

Now the issue is solved you can use this drive for installation or booting purposes of any operating system.
