What is Slide Layout in MS Powerpoint?

Microsoft PowerPoint has a special feature called slide layout in which you can select different slide layout format in it. A slide layout is a template that contains formatting, placeholder, and different size of boxes for all of the content that appears on a slide. A placeholder is a type of a container that holds text and graphics, such as pictures, SmartArt, tables, charts, graphs, 3D models, and many more. In PowerPoint presentation title slide layout is very important because it is a preview of the upcoming content for the rest of your presentation.

In simple words, a slide layout is a way to arrange the object on the slide. A slide layout contains text and graphics such as pictures, SmartArt, tables, charts, graphs, etc. You can also create or modify these layouts according to your requirements.

Steps to Add Slide Layout

Step 1: On the navigation menu select the Home option.

Step 2: Under the home, section click on the drop-down arrow of layout as shown in figure:

Step 3: A office theme dialog box will open where you can choose a different slide layout.

There are a total of 9 slide layouts in MS PowerPoint: 

  1. Title Slide
  2. Title with Content
  3. Section Header
  4. Comparison
  5. Title only
  6. Blank
  7. Content with Caption
  8. Picture with Caption

Step 4: Select the slide layout according to your topic requirement.

Finally, a slide layout is added to the presentation.
