The battery life of your device plays a huge role in your productivity. Good battery life ensures that you are utilizing Windows 10 at its best. On the other hand, average battery life can stop you from working consistently. Here are some useful ways that will help improve battery life in Windows 10:

Decrease Screen Brightness

Step 1: Open the Windows Start menu and type select Settings.

Step 2: Navigate to Settings > System.

Step 3: On the Display page, you will see a slider under Brightness and color. Move the slider back and forth to set the brightness of your screen.

Battery Saver Mode

Go to Settings > System. Then navigate to the Battery page. Under Battery Savings, you will see a button. Turn it on to save battery life and improve battery life. Alternatively, you can also click on the dropdown under Turn battery saver on automatically and set a value. This action will automatically turn the battery saver on once your device battery reaches the value you have set.

Sleep Mode

Step 1: Type Control Panel in the search bar of the Start Menu and click on the application that pops up.

Step 2.1: Click on Category in the View by dropdown you see in the top-right corner of your screen.

Step 2.2: Click System and Security.

Step 3: Under Power Options, you will see an option called Change what the power buttons do. Click on it to proceed.

Step 4: Set every dropdown to Sleep. This will not only improve your battery life but also improve your system performance.

Limited Background Apps

Step 1: Go to Settings > Privacy.

Step 2: Navigate to the Background apps page. Under Let apps run in the background, you will see a toggle button. Turn it off to restrict apps from running in the background. This will massively improve your battery life.

Remove Attached Devices

The devices that are attached to your PC take up a good amount of power. Hence, removing connected devices is a great way to save power and improve battery life. Unplug the USB cables and turn off your PC’s Bluetooth to disconnect all the devices that are attached to your PC. Here’s how you turn off Bluetooth on Windows 10:

Step 1: Go to Settings > Devices.

Step 2: On the Bluetooth & other devices page, you will see a toggle button that controls if Bluetooth is active or not. Turn it off to disconnect all the connected devices from your PC.

Change Brightness With Shortcut Key

When using a laptop, most keyboards feature shortcuts for lowering and raising screen brightness. The two keys typically include a sun icon with two arrows: one going up to increase brightness and one pointing down to decrease brightness. Some only have the sun icon instead of any arrows. The function key (fn) and the key allocated for adjusting the brightness is the most used keyboard shortcut combinations. In addition to the five techniques I listed above, some Windows 10 laptops can automatically adjust the brightness based on ambient brightness. Open the settings menu, select System, and then click Display to access this option.
