The initial state of a mod 10 up counter is 1000. What would be the state after 54 clock pulses?

(A) 1000

(B) 0001

(C) 0010
(D) 0100


Answer: (C)

Explanation:

A mod 10 up counter counts from 0 to 9 in a cyclic manner i.e. {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, 1, 2, 3, ……………..}. Hence it repeats after every 10 clock pulses.
Here if initial state of the counter is 1000 (8 in decimal). After 50 clock pulses it would remain the same and would count to 0010 (2 in decimal) in the next 4 clock pulses.

Hence after 50+4=54 clock pulses the state of the counter would be 0010.
