Foundation CSS is an open-source & responsive front-end framework built by ZURB foundation in September 2011, that makes it easy to design beautiful responsive websites, apps, and emails that look amazing & can be accessible to any device. It is used by many companies such as Facebook, eBay, Mozilla, Adobe, and even Disney. The framework is built on SaaS-like bootstrap. It is more sophisticated, flexible, and easily customizable. It also comes with CLI, so it’s easy to use it with module bundlers. It offers the Fastclick.js tool for faster rendering on mobile devices.

The Prototyping Utilities facilitate the building of the prototype layouts and UI i.e. helps to build the coded prototypes that will be developed from the beginning. Every Utility has a mixin, along with the custom classes or swap classes for mixins, in order to produce a cleaner markup. The Overflow class can be used for clipping the content or managing the content, which will be rendering the scrollbar to display the content while the content overflows from the block-level container.

Foundation CSS Prototyping Utilities Overflow Class:

  • For All Sides:
    • overflow-visible: This class allows the overflow to be fully visible, nothing is clipped. Although, the overflow can be controlled to be visible in a specific direction.
    • overflow-hidden: This class allows the overflow to be fully hidden, all the extra content is clipped. The overflow can be hidden in a specific direction.
    • overflow-scroll: This class adds scrollbars to the content, extra part is clipped. We need to see that extra part by scrolling in the scrollbars. The overflow can be controlled to be scrolled in a specific direction.
  • For Horizontal Axis:
    • overflow-visible: This class is used to clip the overflow to be visible in the x-direction.
    • overflow-x-hidden: This class is used to overflow to be hidden in the x-direction.
    • overflow-x-scroll: The overflow can be controlled to be scrolled in the x-direction.
  • For Vertical Axis:
    • overflow-y-visible: This class is used to clip the overflow to be visible in the y-direction.
    • overflow-y-hidden: This class is used to overflow to be hidden in the y-direction.
    • overflow-y-scroll: The overflow can be controlled to be scrolled in the y-direction.

Example 1: The below example illustrates the use of the overflow-scroll, so the scrollbars are added which are used to navigate to the clipped parts.

Example 2: The below example illustrates the use of the overflow-x-hidden, so the scrollbars are in the y-axis(horizontal axis) only.
