In this article, we are going to see how to set the top of a Group of the canvas using Fabric.js. The Group in Fabric.js is movable and can be stretched according to requirements. Further, the Group can be customized when it comes to initial stroke color, height, width, fill color, or stroke width.

  • To make it possible we are going to use a JavaScript HTML5 canvas library called Fabric.js.
  • After importing the library, we will create a canvas block in the body tag that will contain the Group.
  • After this, we will initialize instances of Canvas and Group provided by Fabric.js and set the position relative to the top in the canvas Group using the top property.

fabric.Group([canvas1, canvas2], {
   top: Number

Parameters: This property accepts a single parameter as mentioned above and described below:

  • top: It specifies the position relative to the top in the canvas Group. It contains a numerical value.

Below examples illustrate the use of Fabric.js Group top property in JavaScript:

<!DOCTYPE html>
  <!-- FabricJS CDN -->
  <script src=
    <div style="text-align: center;width: 400px;">
      <h1 style="color: green;">
          Fabric.js | Group top Property
    <div style="text-align: center;">
      <canvas id="canvas" width="500" height="300"
      style="border:1px solid green;">
      // Initiate a Canvas instance
      var canvas = new fabric.Canvas("canvas");
      // Initiate a circle instance
      var circle = new fabric.Circle({
        radius: 100,
        fill: 'lightgreen',
        scaleY: 0.6,
        originX: 'center',
        originY: 'center'
      // Initiate a text instance
      var text = new fabric.Text('GeeksforGeeks', {
        fontSize: 25,
        originX: 'center',
        originY: 'center'
      // Initiate a Group instance
      var group = new fabric.Group([ circle, text ], {
        top: 150
      // Render the Group in canvas
