In government exams like SSC, Banking, Railways, etc we find many questions from the Awards and Honours section. This is a part of the current affairs section. We will cover the section comprehensively so that students can learn and get most of the questions correct in this section. In this article, we will provide a complete list of different types of Gallantry Awards winners.

Gallantry Awards : 

  • The Gallantry Award was instituted by the Government of India to honor the bravery and sacrifice of military officers/staff and other legally formed military and civilians.  These awards for bravery are announced twice a year. First is Republic Day, then  Independence Day. 
     
  • After independence, his first three awards for courage namely  Param Vir Chakra,  Maha Vir Chakra, and  Vir Chakra were enacted by the Government of India on 26th January 1950 and are considered valid from  15th August 1947.
     
  • Other three awards for courage were subsequently enacted by the Government of India on  January 4, 1952, namely Ashoka Chakra Class I, Ashoka Chakra Class II, and Ashoka Chakra Class III later these are called Ashoka Chakra,  Kirti Chakra, and  Shaurya Chakra. 

Types of Gallantry Awards as per their Ranking : 

Param Vir Chakra :

  • Medal: Circular, made of bronze, 1.38 inches in diameter, said to have four replicas of his “Indras Vajra” embossed on the obverse side with the national coat of arms in the center. Its reverse side is said to be inscribed with “PARAM VIR CHAKRA” in both  Hindi and English, with his two lotus flowers depicted between the Hindi and  English inscriptions.  
     
  • Ribbon: Plain purple ribbon. 
     
  • BAR: If a chakra recipient repeats an act of valor that would have qualified him to receive it, that further act of valor is recorded by a BAR attached to the ribbon on which the chakra is exposed.  will be Additional ingots added for each such additional act of valor, and such ingots or ingots may also be awarded posthumously. For each ingot awarded, a miniature replica of Indra’s Vajra is added to the ribbon when worn alone.

Mahavir Chakra :

  • Medal: Round, standard silver, 3/8th of a 1.8 inch in diameter,  embossed with a five-pointed heraldic star on the obverse side, with the star tip just above the rim. in contact. In the center of the star is said to have a dome-shaped golden coat of arms. On the reverse side, it is inscribed with “MAHA VIR CHAKRA” in both  Hindi and English, and between the Hindi and  English inscriptions, he is said to have drawn two lotus flowers.
     
  • Ribbon: The ribbon is half white and half orange. For each ingot awarded, a miniature chakra replica is added to the band when worn alone.
     
  • BAR: If a chakra recipient repeats an act of valor that would have qualified him to receive it, that further act of valor is recorded by a BAR attached to the ribbon on which the chakra is exposed. will be Additional ingots added for each such additional act of valor, and such ingots or ingots may also be awarded posthumously. Vir Chakra :

  • Medal: A standard silver circle, 1.38 inches in diameter, engraved with a five-pointed star crest on the obverse side, with the tip of the star just touching the rim. It is said to have a domed centerpiece with the state coat of arms in gold inside. It is said that two lotus flowers are depicted in the inscriptions. 
     
  • Ribbon: The ribbon is half blue and half orange. 
     
  • BAR: When Chakra Recipients Take Courageous Actions Again. If you entitle him or her to receive chakra, such additional acts of valor are recorded by a bar attached to the ribbon from which the chakra is suspended, and with each such additional act of valor An extra bar is added and this bullion or bullion can also be awarded posthumously.  For each ingot awarded, a miniature chakra replica is added to the band when worn alone. 

Ashok Chakra :

  • Medal: Round, 1 inch, and 3/8th in diameter, with rims on both sides. Medals must be gold. The obverse of the medal is said to have a replica of Ashoka’s chakra inscribed in the center surrounded by a lotus wreath. Inwardly along the rim, it is said to have a pattern of lotus leaves, flowers, and buds. It is said The reverse is embossed with the words “Ashok Chakra” in both  Hindi and English and the two versions are said to be separated by two lotus flowers. 
     
  • Ribbon: The green ribbon is divided into two equal segments by an orange vertical line. 
     
  • Bar: If the chakra recipient again performs such gallantry as entitled to receive chakra, that further gallantry is recognized by the ingot attached to the ribbon where the chakra is exposed, and the additional A bar is added.  Each of these bars or bars may also be awarded posthumously for each subsequent act of valor. For each ingot awarded, a chakra miniature replica of him is added to the band when worn alone.

Kirti Chakra :

  • Medal: Circular, standard silver, 1 inch and 3/8 in diameter, bordered on both sides. The obverse of the medal is said to have a replica of Ashoka’s chakra carved in the center surrounded by a lotus wreath. Inwardly along the rim is a pattern of lotus leaves, flowers, and buds.   • Ribbon: A green ribbon divided into thirds by two vertical orange lines. 
     
  • BAR: If a chakra recipient again makes such gallantry as entitled to receive chakra, that further gallantry will be recognized by an ingot attached to the ribbon where the chakra is exposed, and additionally Recognized for every act of courage.  Adds additional ingots, which may or may not be awarded posthumously. For each such wand, a miniature replica of the chakra is added to the band when worn alone.

Shaurya Chakra :

  • Medal: Round and Bronze, 1 and 3/8 inches in diameter, bordered on both sides. The obverse of the medal is said to have a replica of Ashoka’s chakra carved in the center surrounded by a lotus wreath. Inwardly along the rim is a pattern of lotus leaves, flowers, and buds. It is said The reverse has the words “SHAURYA CHAKRA” embossed in both  Hindi and English, and the two versions are said to be separated by his two lotus flowers. 
     
  • Ribbon: The green ribbon is divided into four equal parts by three vertical lines. 
     
  • BAR: If the chakra recipient again performs such gallantry as entitled to receive chakra, that further gallantry is recognized by the ingot attached to the ribbon where the chakra is exposed, and the additional Recognized for every act of courage.  Adds additional ingots, which may or may not be awarded posthumously. For each such wand, a miniature replica of the chakra is added to the band when worn alone.
