1. WifI Technology :
Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) is a wireless communication technology. It is used for Local Area Networks. Wifi transmits data at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio frequencies which is more stable and higher as compared to 3G networks. Wifi is a less expensive technology and can be easily installed by installing a wireless LAN on any computer that has a wireless adapter. It can be used to connect gaming consoles, printers, computers etc.
2. 3G Technology :
3rd generation (3G) is a technology that is controlled by the service provider. It is for Wide area network based application. It is more expensive technology as compared to Wifi and it can only be installed by carrier companies. It is more reliable and has much larger coverage than WiFi networks. Unlike Wifi, there is need to pay to connect 3G network.
Difference between WiFi and 3G Technology :
|S.NO||WIFI Technology||3G Technology|
|1.||Wifi router controls the wifi access.||Whereas it is controlled by service provider.|
|2.||Wifi provides speeds of around 11 Mbps to 55 Mbps.||While 3G provides speeds of around 40 kbps to 70 kbps.|
|3.||WiFi technology is less expensive than 3G technology in terms of usage.||Whereas it is expensive comparatively.|
|4.||WiFi is for Local area network based applications.||Whereas 3G is for Wide area network based application.|
|5.||Wifi transmits data at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio frequencies.||Whereas 3G transmits data at low frequencies ranging from 850 MHz to 1900 MHz.|
|6.||Wifi frequencies are more stable than 3G frequencies.||Whereas 3G frequency is comparatively less stable.|
|7.||Wifi can be easily installed by installing a wireless LAN on any computer that has a wireless adapter.||Whereas it can only be installed by carrier companies.|
|8.||WiFi network is less reliable as compared to 3G network.||Whereas it is more reliable as compared to Wifi networks.|
|9.||Often there is no need to pay to connect a WiFi network.||Whereas there is need to pay to connect 3G network.|
|10.||It is more used now-a-days.||While 4G has replaced the 3G network.|
