Difference between System Software and Utility Software

1. System Software :
System software is a software that provides platform to other software. Some examples can be operating systems, antivirus software, disk formatting software, Computer language translators etc. These are commonly prepared by the computer manufacturers. These software consists of programs written in low-level languages, used to interact with the hardware at a very basic level. System software serves as the interface between the hardware and the end users.

2. Utility Software :
These software analyze and maintain a computer. These software are focused on how OS works on that basis it perform task to enable smooth functioning of computer. These software may come along with OS like windows defender, windows disk cleanup tool.
Antivirus, backup software, file manager, disk compression tool all are utility software.

Difference between System Software and Utility Software :

System Software	Utility Software
System Software maintain the system resources and give the path for application software to run.	Utility Software refers to software programs that add functionality to computer and help to perform in better way.
System Software is a general purpose software.	Utility Software mainly focuses on how computer infrastructure such as hardware, operating system, software, etc., operates.
System Software is Difficult to design.	Utility Software easier to build than System Software.
System Software have fast speed.	Utility software depends on the specifications of the system.
Without system software, system can’t run.	Utility Software can be downloaded either from web or comes pre-installed.
System Software can be either free or paid if downloaded from web.	Utility Software is mostly free to install in computer.
Example of system software are operating system, etc.	Example of utility software are : Avast antivirus, disk tools, backup software, etc.
