1. Plasma Panel Display : Plasma panel is a type of display which consists of two parallel glass plates which are separated by a thin gap. The gap between the glass plates is filled with gases which include neon. As the other name of the plasma panel is gas discharge display, because of the gases which are filled in between the parallel plates of the plasma panel. Plasma panel are available both the colors black and white and also color type which is in great demand today. 2. LCD : LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. It is a display which is non-emissive device and it uses light source for the display; the light source is blacklight and convert it to graphical image. LCD for the display uses two major components which are as follows:

  • Polarized light
  • Liquid Crystal Material

There are two types of LCDs : Active matrix LCD and Passive matrix LCD.
Difference between Plasma Panel and LCD :

Sr. No. Basis Plasma Display LCD
1. Technology Used It is the display which depends upon the light bulb and also mixture of gases which are present in between the two plates of the plasma display. It is the concept which based on the liquid crystal material that is used to block or transmit polarized light which is used to display.
2. Weight In weight, they are heavy. They are in less weight as compared to the plasma display.
3. Burn-in Plasma panel suffers from burn-in problem; i.e., plasma panels are easily to burn-in of static images. LCDs does not suffer from such kind of problem.
4. Life-Span Their life-span is shorter, which is around 20, 000 to 60, 000 hours. Their life-span is long, which is around 50, 000 to 1, 00, 000 hours.
5. Cost They are cheaper. They are costly.
6. Viewing angle It shows the same view from the every angle. It also shows the same view but upto 165 degrees, picture in the LCD suffers from the side view.
7. Power Consumption It consumes more power. It consumes less power.
8. Performance They have poor performance at high attitudes due to the pressure in between the gases and also high air pressure at altitudes It does not suffer from such issues.
9. Contrast Ratio It has higher contrast ratio which is upto 3000:1. It has lower contrast ratio which is upto 350-450:1.
10. Motion Tracking It does not suffers from the motion lag even at fast moving images. It suffers from motion lag.
11. Brightness It has lower brightness, so it is basically viewed in darkened-rooms. It has high brightness, so it is basically viewed in brightened areas.
12. Heat As it consumes more power, so it also produce more heat. As it consumes less power, so it produces less heat.
13. Screen Reflection Screen surface is less reflective. Screen surface is more reflective.
