The methods of training that are applied to the workplace while the employee is actually working is known as On-the-Job Training. Such methods follow the pattern of ‘learning while doing’. Under this, the supervisor or any experienced employee gives instructions and the employees follow the instructions, orders and guidelines while doing the work. Induction Training, Apprenticeship Training, Coaching, Internship, etc., are some of the On-the-Job Training Methods.

The methods of training in which training is provided to the employee away from his job is known as Off-the-Job Training. Such methods follow the pattern of ‘learning before doing’. Under this, the trainee is separated from the job and his attention is focused on the learning, which is related to his future job performance. Class Room Lectures, Films, Case studies, Vestibule Training, etc., are some of the Off-the-Job Training Methods.
