Luminance is the brightness of the light that is being considered by the human eye at a certain angle from a certain surface area, it is considered as the perception or the catching power of the human eye. Luminance often depends upon the brightness coming from a surface and according to the CIE, it is the linear components sum of the RGB components. Whereas LUMA is termed as the modified form of the Luminance it is the gamma-corrected component sum of the Luminance denoted as the prime(‘). Luma is the brightness of the current screen or the visual or the black and white image portion, it is the grayscale intensity of the image. So, we can say that luminance is the catching power of the brightness and luma whereas is the determination power of the brightness.

What is LUMA?

Luma in a video represents the brightness of the current image, we can also say the black and white portion of the image. Luma is basically the grayscale of the image and it has a collaboration with the chrominance which decides the colors. It determines the image brightness in monochrome.

Luma is completely the modified form of the luminance let’s suppose the background you are viewing something currently is having the luma of the text which is written over a text. It also has a Luma key which has a composite function to make a foreground clip over a background clip which is also used widely in video engineering and making some photoshop texts also.

It is more efficient also than the chroma key which makes the image too transparent to make it visible whereas the luma key makes works with the luminance of the image modifying it to make it visible or making it easier to work with the luminance of the image or the video. Luma Shows the saturation of an image going from an angle of grayscale to the angle for the very deep shade of the color.

Luma is being compressed in the real world, or we can say it is a modified version of luminance and It is the sum of the gamma components of the RGB where the prime symbol(‘) represents the gamma. It is also called the modified version of luminance. Luma has the benefit over the previous televisions and it is also compatible with the older televisions and recent higher resolution television also. Luma Levels also control the saturation and hue levels of an image and video which allows it to set the source parameter and also makes it easier to set the specific modifications in a specific area of an image or still video. Luma is very useful for the identification of the separation of an image, it is often used for the 3D type of effects.

What is Luminance?

Luminance terms the perception of the human eye or the saying of catching the brightness by the human eye, or the intensity of the light passing through the current area. It is not as often encountered in engineering as the Luma but has great use in video engineering.

Luminance has two basic points one can be considered as the intensity of the light in the following in that area surface, it often depends upon the surface and the second one is the unit area of the surface.

Luminance is the consideration of the light like you are currently viewing the text over a luminance of some background color. What we are seeing currently is the pattern of luminance irrespective of the colors. It is measured in a SI unit known as the candela per square meter(cd/m2), which defines as the intensity of the emitted light per unit of surface area.

Luminance is the color science of the perception of the human eye like the brightness of a monitor on a laptop screen. It is a linear sum of the RGB components according to the CIE, unlike the Luma which is the gamma-corrected sum of the RGB. The luminance can be measured through a scale called the luminance scale which is the measurement of the brightness that can be detected by the human eye from a particular surface area and at a certain angle both things are dependent to justify the luminance in that area.

Luminance is the most important thing for the visuals as if there is no light term as luminance = 0 then there will be no vision at all and without the contrast, we cannot identify the patterns it all depends on the luminance which makes the vision process possible.

1. Weighted Sum of gamma-corrected components of RGB Weighted Sum of Liner components of RGB
2. It’s a component referring to the component of a video’s light intensity carrying the monochrome that determines the image brightness. Luminance is a perception of the human eye’s catching power of brightness, rather than measured.
3. A modified form of luminance Linear form of perception of light.
4. It is a gamma-corrected quantity that is being compressed in real-world light. It is a physical quantity that gives the measurement of the intensity of the light in a particular area.
5. R’G’B’ where the primes denote the compressed visuals of the light source that is being done using the gamma intensity. RGB is the raw luminance calculation of the intensity of that area
6.

Mathematically Calculation gives the Y in CIE-XYZ format exactly as Y like

Y refers to the relative luminance

Y = 0.2126*R(gamma) + 0.7152*G(gamma) + 0.0722*B(gamma)

which is the compressed form of the intensity and is called the light source. It is also termed the gamma encoded CIE-XYZ
