1. Desktop: 
Desktop is a physical computer unit that consists of a monitor, CPU, keyboard, and mouse. It is a graphical user workspace on a software operating system. It is designed for regular use at one location. It requires the main power supply so that it can not be portable. 

2. Tablet: 
A tablet or Tablet Computer is a device generally operated with a mobile operating system. It has a touchscreen display and there is a rechargeable battery inbuilt into it. It is a thin and flat device. It does not have a physical keyboard with it. The lasting time of the battery in the tablet is more as compared to the battery life of the laptop. It is light weighted and portable easily. 

Difference between Desktop and Tablet :

8. It has a very powerful processor. While it is operated with mobile operating system.
9. The repairing of desktops is easy to work as compared to tablets. While the repairing of tablets is a little complex.
10. It has wide range of screen size. While the range of screen sizes in tablets is limited.
11. Components of the desktop can be easily removed. The components of tablets are not removable.
12. It does not have a slot for sim-cards. Some tablets may have a slot for sim-cards.
13. It is more expensive than a tablet. While it is less expensive comparatively.
14. It has more features in comparison to the tablet. It has fewer features comparatively.
15. It may have CD or DVD player inbuilt into the CPU. While it does not have such functionality.
16. Boot time is slower as compared to a tablet. It has a relatively faster boot time than a desktop.

Every computer can be upgraded in terms of hardware in the following ways- 

  • Adding more memory 
  • Disk storage
  • A new expansion card
Some tablets offer you to increase storage by adding a memory card but otherwise, there aren’t many upgrade options.
18. It supports the connection with several peripherals and accessories. It supports connection with only a limited peripherals and accessories.

  • May be preferable for high-end 3D gaming because of high processing power
  • Print facility is available
  • Cost-effective
  • Wide options are available for video and photo editing

  • Portable device
  • Good for basic needs
  • Easy to operate
  • Movies, e-books, and music is easily accessible

  • Low file storage space
  • Some tablets do not support the running of traditional programs
  • Difficult to print documents
  • Not suitable for intensive typing work
