Difference between .com, .net and .org domains

The Internet has given rise to various sites. These sites are all linked to various domain names. The domain names are necessary for knowing the authority of the sites. 

1. .com domain : 
The .com domain is a top-level domain (TLD) and it has become very popular. It was introduced to be used by commercial entities but nowadays it is used by non commercial, network-based and miscellaneous organisations and individuals as well. The word .com has been derived from the word commercial. 
Examples : www.google.com, www.bbn.com, www.think.com, www.mcc.com, www.dec.com, www.northrop.com, www.xerox.com.

2. .net domain : 
The term .net has been derived from the word networking. This domain was specially made to showcase the authority of the networking sites, the hosting based services providers or database based service providers and several such related enterprises. 
Examples : www.behance.net, www. broken.net, www. nsf.net, www. nyser.net, www. uu.net, www.sesqui.net, www. mr.net, www.oar.net.

3. .org domain : 
The term .org shows that the authority of a domain is a non-profit organisation. It was introduced to be used by miscellaneous orgaisations that did not necessarily fit into a specific domain category. The Public Interest Registry (PIR) is the registry for the .org domain. However, due to no strict legal aspect of the authority, anybody can use any domain name as long as it is available.
