1. Bluetooth :

Bluetooth is a short range wireless communication technology which uses radio waves to transmit information. It is a high speed and low power communication technology to connect gadgets wirelessly without requiring cable connection. It is used for exchanging data between fixed and mobile devices/computers over short distances. It works well in a short distance for the devices to stay connected when the range extends it fails to maintain connectivity. Now a days Bluetooth is common in many portable electronic devices like laptops, PDAs, speakers, smartphones and tablets etc. The range and transmission speeds of bluetooth are typically lower than Wi-Fi

2. Light Fidelity (LiFi) :

LiFi stands for Light Fidelity. LiFi is a wireless communication technology which uses light to transmit data rather than radio frequencies like bluetooth. Means it makes use of light waves to deliver data. That’s why it is also called as wireless optical networking technology. LiFi provides higher speeds than WiFi. LiFi uses LiFi bulbs which are outfitted with a chip that modulates the light imperceptibly for optical data transmission and the LiFi data is transmitted through LiFi bulbs and received by photoreceptors. It is fully networked, bidirectional and high-speed wireless technology. When LiFi technology is used in all the lights in and around a building then it provides a large area of coverage than a single WiFi router

Difference between Bluetooth and LiFi :

S.No. Bluetooth LiFi
01. Bluetooth uses radio waves to transmit data. LiFi uses light waves to transmit data.
02. It does not require any LED bulbs for data transmission. But a LED can be Bluetooth enabled for communication. It requires LiFi enabled LED bulbs for data transmission.
03. Frequency range of Bluetooth is in between 2.4 and 2.485 GHz. As it uses Light so Light does not require frequency.
04. The most common type class 2 Bluetooth can operate upto 10 m range. Li-Fi has a range of approximately 10 meters but it depends upon LED light connection.
05. Bluetooth can pass through walls and any solid objects. But LiFi can not pass through any walls or any solid objects.
06. Bluetooth can be availed only in a Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN). LiFi can be availed only upto which the LiFi LEDs are connected means wherever light is available.
07. It provides a standard data transfer rate of 800 Kbps. It provides a data transfer rate of greater than 1 Gbps.
08. Power consumption rate of Bluetooth is low. Power consumption rate of LiFi is medium.
09. Bluetooth is less secure than LiFi. LiFi is more secure than Bluetooth.
10. It operates at 2.5 MHz. It operates at visible light band.
11. Development started in 1998. Development started in 2011.
12. Bluetooth works in less dense environment. LiFi works in high dense environment.
13. Bluetooth works on the concept of Master Slave. LiFi works on the concept of direct binary data serving.
14. Bluetooth comprises of four major components namely Radio unit, Baseband Unit, Software stack, and Application software. LIFI comprises of Lamp driver, LED bulb and photo detector.
