The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), is an integrated program spanning all facets of rural power distribution and intended to deliver uninterrupted power to all of rural India, was announced by the Ministry of Power on December 3, 2014. According to the plan, the government of India will contribute a grant of up to 60% of the project cost (85% for special States) and an additional grant of up to 15% (50% for the Special States) upon reaching the predetermined milestones. • The Nodal Agency for the operation of this Scheme is the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC). It will provide the Ministry of Power and Central Electricity Authority with monthly implementation status reports detailing both financial and physical progress.
• The population requirements for hamlets and villages in DDUGJY have been abolished, and all hamlets and villages are now eligible without any demographic constraints.
• The establishment of District Electricity Committees (now DISHA) under the leadership of the senior most Member of Parliament institutionalized participation of all stakeholders
• Under the program, all Discoms are qualified for financial support.

• As of December 31, 2021, 4,404 projects totaling Rs. 47972 crores with the following components had been approved, and the Government of India had released grants totaling Rs. 22,755 crores to the States in response.
• 3,958 substations were commissioned, including the augmentation of 2,093 substations.
• Energy meters have been put in 153.80 lakh customer locations, along with 2.53 lakh distribution transformers and 0.13 lakh 11 KV feeders.
• A New 11 KV line of 1.23 lakh km was installed.
