Data visualization is a technique to represent the data or set of information in charts. Excel gives a tool of Power View where we can explore the data interactively and also we can visualize the data such that data can be presented in Tables, Bar charts, Scatter plots, and Pie charts. This tool can also be used to analyze the data in projects, marketing, and business.

In this article we will discuss different types of data visualization that are mentioned below:-

  • Table Visualization
  • Switch Visualization
  • Matrix Visualization
  • Card Visualization
  • Chart Visualization

Let’s consider sample data to discuss different types of visualization.

Sample Data

Here you can see we create a dataset with some fields.

Create a dataset

Table Visualization

Table visualization can visualize the data present in the table. We can select the particular columns to represent those data in a table for that follow the further steps:

Step 1: Select the cell from A1 to D7.

Select the cell

Step 2: Select the Insert tab from the ribbon.

Select the Insert tab

Step 3: Select Power View from the View section.

 Select Power View

Step 4: A table will be displayed where we can also select columns that we want to visualize from the Power View Fields list.

A table will be displayed where we can also select columns

Switch Visualization

It helps to visualize the table in different types of visualization and this option is given by Switch Visualization where we can switch from one type of visualization to another. For that follow the further steps:

Step 1: Select the Design tab from the ribbon.

Select the Design tab

Step 2: We will get a section on Switch Visualization where we can choose different types of visualization which we will discuss in this article.

go to the Switch Visualization

Matrix Visualization

This visualization is similar as Table Visualization but it can display the values without any repetition and also it can display the totals and subtotals of the columns or rows. For that follow the further steps:

Step 1: Select Table from the Switch Visualization section of the Design tab.

Select Table from the Switch Visualization

Step 2: Select Matrix from Table.

A table is displayed where the name of the country is not repeated.

Card Visualization

It will display the data in the table from each row. It looks like an index card where the count of medals is displayed respectively to their country and sports. For that follow the further steps:

Step 1: Select Table from the Switch Visualization section of the Design tab.

Select Table from the Switch Visualization section

Step 2: Select Card from Table.

Select Card from Table.

Step 3: The card visualization table has been displayed.

The card visualization table has been displayed.

Chart Visualization

Data can be represented in Bar charts, Column charts, Pie charts, Scatter plots and etc. According to our sample data, we will discuss Stacked Column Charts and Pie charts that follow the further steps:

Step 1: Select Column Chart from the Design tab.

Select Column Chart from the Design tab.

Step 2: Select Stacked Column from the Column Chart section.

Select Stacked Column from the Column Chart section.

Then, we will get a Stacked Column Chart of our data.

get a Stacked Column Chart of our data.

Now, follow the further steps to present the data in Pie Chart.

Step 1: Select the Other Chart from the Design tab.

Select the Other Chart

Step 2: Select Pie from the Other Chart section.

Select Pie from the Other Chart section.
