Answer: CMS stands for Content Management System.

A CMS is a software application that is used to manage the creation modification of web content, allowing multiple contributors to create, edit, and publish. Contents in a CMS is usually stored in a database and displayed in the presentation layer on a set of templates. It is typically used for enterprise content management (ECM) and web content management (WCM).

Generally, web pages are written in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, etc. programming languages, and if you want to build a website then you will have to learn all these languages. CMS platforms solve this problem by allowing you to make a website without writing code or learning programming.

CMS has two major components:

  • Content Management Application: It is the front-end user interface editing component, allowing users to edit, modify, add or remove content from a web page.
  • Content Delivery Application: It is the publishing tool that updates the information on the website.

Basic features of CMS:

  • Content creation: It is easy to create and edit content. It means, it contains some drag and drop interface, so you can add different elements on your pages.
  • Content storage: Contents are available at one place, so there will be no difficulty for the user.
  • Publishing functionality: It allows users to publish the created content onto the internet using minimal effort.
  • Revision: It helps to update and edit content after initial publication. It also tracks any changes made to files by individuals.
