When Internet Of Things didn’t exist, patients could interact with doctors through visits, telephonic and text communication. There was no technology by which doctors could monitor patients health and provide necessary recommendations accordingly.
But now with the development of IoT enabled devices remote monitoring of patients health has become possible and has achieved the potential where we can keep patients healthy and safe. Thus, empowering physicians to deliver superlative care. It has made easier for patients to interact with doctors and take necessary steps to improve their health. Furthermore, remote monitoring of patient’s health has helped in reducing the stay of patients at the hospital and thus preventing re-admissions. It has a huge impact on reducing cost of health care and brought improvements in treatment.

Without any doubt IoT is transforming healthcare industry by redefining the space of devices and people’s interaction in providing better health care solutions. IOT has applications in healthcare that have benefited patients, families, physicians and hospitals, as given below few of them –

IoT for patients:
Wearable devices like Fitness band and other wireless connected devices like Glucometer, heart rate monitoring cuffs provide patients personalized attention. They act as reminder for calorie count, exercise check, appointments and blood pressure check. It has changed life of many elderly patients by enabling constant track of their health. It has major impact on people who are living alone and their families as well. In case of any changes in routine activities of a person, alert mechanism would send signals to its family members and concerned heath advisor.

IoT for physician:
By use of wearable and other home monitoring equipment that are embedded with IoT, physicians can keep track of physicians health effectively and efficiently. They can also keep track of patients treatment plans of patient. Physicians collect data from these IoT enable devices and find out best treatment process for patients and take possible steps to reach expected outcomes.

IoT for Hospitals:
Other than remote monitoring patient’s health, their many other fields where IoT devices have been proved to be valuable. These devices are tagged with sensors which are used for tracking real time location of medical equipment like wheelchairs, nebulizers, oxygen pump etc. Spreading of infection is big concern for patients in hospital. But IoT enabled devices to prevent this happening. And hence take care of patients in the absence of medical staff as well.
