Windows Security is a powerful scanning tool that finds and removes malware from your PC. We do have other built-in tools like Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool where we can use that tool to remove malicious software.

Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool:

Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool is an inbuilt Windows tool that scans for and automatically removes malicious software on your Azure Windows Servers. The main objective of this activity is to remove viruses from Windows Servers or from Windows Clients.

Note: This process can also be used in your Windows Client PCs as well.

Installation:

Follow the below  steps to install and Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool:

Step 1: Log in to your select Azure Windows Server using your windows server credentials with Remote Desktop (RDP).

Step 2: Once you have logged into server >> press Windows + R and type in the “mrt” in RUN dialog >> then, click on OK.

 

Step 3:  Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool with pop up >> Click on “Yes”. Now the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool pop will appear on screen >> Click on Next.

 

Step 4: After clicking on Next, we should choose a scan type to proceed >> Click on Next

Available Scan Types:

  • Quick Scan: Scan’s the Quick Areas in your Windows Servers
  • Full Scan: Scan’s the entire system. This may take time. (Scan time depends on files you have on your server)
  • Custom Scan: Scan’s only the select path or file.

 

Step 5: Scanning your Windows Server, scanning will start at this step.

 

Step 6: After it completes the operation, the tool will show the reports of the malicious software that was detected and removed. If exists! If it does not apply then you will get a window with scan result, “No malicious software was detected” as shown below:

 

Note: This process only works for Windows OS Only. It will not work for Linux Servers or Linux Machines.
