American Express Interview Experience for Internship (On-Campus)
Coding Round (Round 1): Duration: 1hr 30min: The coding round was conducted on the Codility platform. It contained a total of 3 questions from the areas – Of bit Manipulation, Array Traversal, and Binary Search.
Tips: Practice DSA thoroughly and have all your concepts cleared. Solve a good number of questions on any major platforms like LeetCode or InterviewBit etc consistently to develop your question-solving ability.
Technical Interview Round (Round 2): Duration: 30-40min: First of all the interviewer asked for my introduction which is generally the first question asked in any interview. After that, she moved on to ask me whether I have built any projects to which I replied that I had.
- Explain your project and what is it about.
- Which database did you use in your project and why?
- After that, she started asking me questions on SQL.
- How do you create and delete tables in SQL?
- What is the difference between truncate and drop commands?
- Other commands and their uses.
- Then she asked me to rate my intellectual powers.
- Then she asked me to solve 2 puzzles – 3 Bulbs and 3 Switches and one more.
- She also asked me some questions from OOPS.
- What are the different concepts in OOPS?
- Explain them by giving real-life examples for each.
- Some questions on inheritance.
- Also, one question was – Why do you want to join Amex?
In the end, she asked me if I had any questions for her to which I asked her 2 questions.
Tech + HR Interview Round (Round 3):- Duration: 40-50min
- The interview started with introductions – first, she introduced herself and then asked for mine.
- According to my introduction, she asked me – What type of positive impact I want to create on society?
- Then since I had mentioned some projects on my resume so she asked me to choose one of the projects and explain all the steps which went into creating it.
- She questioned how I collaborated with my teammates to which I replied using GitHub, after which she started asking some questions on GitHub and Git.
- What do you understand by software development?
- What is your take on advancement in technology? – these are some philosophical kind of questions that I faced.
- In the end, she also asked whether I had any questions for her or not.
Verdict: SELECTED
Tips:
- Create at least one decent project on which you could talk for 15 to 20 min. Also, be completely aware of all the aspects of this project.
- Be very calm and confident. Consider the interview as a professional conversation between you and the interviewer rather than an exam.
- Prepare your core subjects like OOPS, DBMS, etc extremely well.
- Being creative in answering some of the questions and developing a good level of communication skills also help a great deal.
