This was an On-campus hiring process conducted by Amazon for the role of Quality Assurance Engineer for the year 2022

There was an online assignment that consisted of MCQs related to various CS concepts –

  • Computer networks ( 5 questions )
  • Big data ( 5 questions )
  • Pseudo codes/ code snippets ( 5 questions )
  • Data structures ( 5 questions )
  • Databases ( 5 questions )
  • Software testing concepts ( 5 questions )
  • Software testing methodologies ( 5 questions )
  • 1 Coding question ( easy – medium level )

After a weeks time, I received a mail from Amazon saying that I qualified for the online test and was eligible for a virtual interview over the Chime platform. I nearly got 10 days to prepare for the interview.

Since the  role was based on software testing, I concentrated more on manual software testing concepts by referring YouTube videos. ( The most helpful playlist was https://youtu.be/oOvURgHcd4w, it covered all of the theoretical questions asked in the interview )

The virtual interview (Technical Round) went as follows-

ROUND 1: ( 40min )

Phase 1:

  • The interviewer introduced himself and spoke about his current project.
  • Asked to give a brief introduction about me.
  • Why did I choose Computer Science and Engineering and what was my takeaway from all these years of engineering?

Phase 2:

  • What is the importance of QAE
  • Describe STLC
  • Describe the defect life cycle
  • Difference between test scenario and test case
  • Take the scenario of PhonePe and describe the various test data
  • Take Amazon payment gateway as an example and list out all the test data

Phase 3:

Phase 4: Any questions ( If you don’t have any questions, prefer to ask about the interviewer’s experience with Amazon ) Within a 40min interval, I was informed that I got through Round 1 and there will be another Technical round which was as follows-

ROUND 2: ( 60 min )

Phase 1:

  • The interviewer introduced himself.
  • Asked to give a brief introduction about me.
  • The interviewer went through my resume and asked me to speak about the projects I mentioned.

Phase 2:

Phase 3:

  • What do you know about QAE
  • What concepts did you learn in testing
  • Consider any chat application such as WhatsApp. When you tap in the chat text area the keyboard of your phone isn’t popping up. Write the test cases for this scenario.
  • Write test cases for testing Bluetooth headsets.
  • Consider yourself as a QAE at Amazon and you are given a task to test the Amazon login page, what test cases will you be defining for this scenario?

Phase 4: Any questions ( Always prefer to ask interviewer’s experience with the company, this tends to create an impression that you are excited to know about their work culture and are willing to work with them )

Both rounds were absolutely great for me. The interviewers were amiable and interactive which made the process very easy to handle and lively.

Finally, I got the Quality Assurance Engineer role at Amazon.
