A wide variety of images are available all over the internet for serving different purposes. These images are available in different formats like PNG, JPEG, AI, EPS, etc. but creating an image is a complex process. Images are created using special software, first of all, a rough outline or sketch of a figure or concept is drawn, and then it is manipulated using different tools for providing details finally, these images can be rendered in different formats. CorelDraw and InDesign are two software used for creating images so we will compare these.

What is InDesign?

InDesign is trialware computer software developed by Adobe and Alok Rawat in 1999 using the C++ programming language. It was mainly developed for designing page layouts. It become popular as a desktop publishing software due to its EPUB and SWF files support. It is compatible with macOS and Windows.

Advantages of InDesign

Disadvantages of InDesign

  • It has a problem of hanging when working with large files having heavy graphic details.
  • It lacks editing tools like setting contrast or sharpness of images.

What is CorelDRAW?

CorelDraw is a proprietary graphic editing software that was launched in 1989. It was developed by Corel corporation using C++ and C#. Being a vector editing software it produces SVG images that can be zoomed to high levels without quality loss. It is worldwide popular and is available in multiple languages. 

Advantages of CorelDraw

  • Installation and configuration are very easy as detailed instructions are given in its documentation.
  • Images created in this are compatible with other software.
  • It has a feature for extracting pictures from different websites easily.
  • Downtime is very low which means it gives high performance.

Disadvantages of CorelDraw

  • It does not support editing 3d image files like those created in blender or Maya.
  • It does not have collaboration tools.

Both have great drawing tools but InDesign maintains industry standards and has a large community. Hence for simple works, one can choose CorelDraw and for advanced designing, one should choose InDesign.
