A computer on a 50 Gbps network is regulated by a token bucket. The token bucket is filled at a rate of 18 gigabit / seconds. It is initially filled to capacity with 32 Gigabits. What is the maximum duration for which the computer can transmit at the full 50 Gbps?
(A) 10 nanoseconds
(B) 32 milliseconds
(C) 16 microseconds
(D) 1 second

Answer: (D)

Explanation: Given,

Capacity of token bucket(C) = 32 Gigabits,
Maximum possible transmission rate(M) = 50 Gbps,
And, token generation rate = 18 Gbps

Now, Maximum burst time (t) is,

= Capacity of token ring / (maximum transmission rate - token generation rate)
= 32 / (50 - 18)
= 1 second

So, option (D) is correct.
